Assessment

I got a little stuck on the use of the word assessment as we used it today - you see I use it in an entirely different context in my teachings related to the behavioral health field. But no worries I am adaptable - I understand the working definition of assessment for this course as being the integration and manifestation of learning. So how do we really measure learning? Well I probably should avoid the philosophical approach to that question in the interest of saving time and blog space and go straight for the practicalities. Most of my course assignments (assessments) are given in the form of writing and reflection. Students are encouraged to interact with the material on a personal level as well as a skill development level. It is always important to continually re-evaluate the way we facilitate the learning process. I found our discussions today provocative in that respect. The journey continues... it's only Tuesday! Stay tuned...

There are so many overlapping vocabularies when educators gather together. Assessment and 'evidence' constantly pose a challenge when trying to make sure we are all talking about the same thing!

I really want to be sure that we are giving you something valuable this week. From my outside perspective it feels like finding ways for students to connect as a learning community might be valuable, even if that isn't necessarily done in any public way... that's just my intuition talking, coming from the little I know of behavioral health!
